What Our Satisfied Clients Have To Say About Our Family Programs

Parents-To-Be Programs

Parents-To-BeThe purpose of our various Parents-To-Be Programs is to provide you, a parent-to-be, with the current and accurate information needed for you to make informed choices with confidence. Our programs include early pregnancy classes, childbirth preparation, breastfeeding and baby care programs and CPR.

line

“I can’t thank you enough for everything I learned from your classes. People laughed at me when I said I was taking Lamaze®, Breastfeeding, Baby First Aid and CPR. Not only did I learn so much but I was secure every step of the way. When Rich and I are ready for our next child, you can guarantee we will be there for a refresher course! Until then, we will be at the new mommy group! Thanks.” - Marian P.

line

“My fourth child and this was the first Lamaze class I ever took. It was the best thing I ever did. Mary Kahrs is an amazing instructor...A class that my coaches thought would be boring turned out to be extremely informative in the most fun way... Forever grateful.” - Jeanette T.

line

“I can’t begin to tell you how much your organization has made a difference for me and my family. I took the breastfeeding support class almost 3 years ago, right before my daughter was born, and I am so grateful for Mary and the support the class provided. I am certain I would not have had such a successful experience with breastfeeding had I not attended your course. Although I struggled in the beginning, the knowledge I acquired in the class allowed me to have the composure and patience I needed to help my daughter and myself connect. I am so happy for all the health and emotional benefits I have been able to provide my baby from breast milk and am still nursing her now at 2 1/2! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” - Gina B.

line

“We thought the classes were great! Many of our friends & family who had taken Lamaze elsewhere were not really happy with the info provided and their instructors. But, our instructor kept it fun and brought a lot of humor and relief about the unknown. We felt better prepared for the birth of our son. My husband wanted to cut the cord after attending class. Where before just the thought turned him white. Even when I needed a cesarean I saw my husband peaking over the curtains when they lifted the baby up. Because we had a great time and learned a lot I am definitely signing up for mommy and me classes.” - Christine D.

line

“We were a little hesitant going into the full day Lamaze Class, But . . . Mary made it so wonderful, fun, interesting and kept our attention the entire time. We came away from this class much more knowledgeable about the labor process. Our teacher’s care and enthusiasm came across to all and we will absolutely come back to CFA in the future!” - Helen & Sean H.

line

“Lamaze class is great even if you don’t end up using the breathing techniques. The best part was learning about the birth process and some of the medical jargon that gets thrown around in the hospital. It really helped me feel more in control. I’ll definitely be taking the refresher class when it comes time for baby #2!” - Rachel K.

line

“I learned so much from the Breastfeeding, Infant CPR and C-Section Prep classes while I was pregnant. They really showed me what to expect, gave me confidence in myself and helped to relieve my anxiety about giving birth and caring for a new baby. The breastfeeding class was particularly helpful-- So far Liana and I are having a very successful nursing experience! I am currently enrolled in the New Mothers Group. It is such a wonderful resource for good information and support!” - Stephanie R.

line

“Thanks Mary! Your advise and suggestions made my labor experience better than I could ever have anticipated! I remained calm and used the shower, walking and breathing techniques to relax me. It made a world of difference!” - Angela, Chris & Julie R.

line

“As a young first time mom-to-be, taking Mary Kahr’s Lamaze class made me feel very comfortable going into labor. I was fully prepared and her techniques were very helpful. She made the class interesting and fun. I recommend her to all moms-to-be!” - Kristie T.

New Parent Programs

New ParentsThe first year of parenthood is a very busy one as you adjust to your new role as a parent. Our New Parents Programs are specially designed to give you strength, friendship and knowledge. Our lesson plans focus on the growth and development of your child but also on your growth and development as a parent.

line

“I think all of the programs at CFA have been wonderful. Mary, our instructor, is a wealth of knowledge and provides a wonderful support.” - Michele M.

line

“The mommy and me program is wonderful. I first started to get out of the house myself and talk to other adults when Brian was 6 weeks old and we participated in New Moms. Now I can’t wait to take him every week so he can interact with other babies, learn songs, listen to books, etc. It is a great learning experience at such a young age.” - Krista Z.

line

“I absolutely love coming to CFA. It is such a warm, welcoming and inviting place to be! I came for Lamaze class, Breastfeeding class, as well as, New Mom’s Group and now My Baby and Me. I love going home and sharing what I have learned with friends and family! I’ve made great friends here and I thank you!” - Tara M.

line

“I took the new mom’s class and it was great. Mary was so knowledgeable in every area of having a new baby and she made me feel so welcome. I was late the first day, because I could not find the building. When I finally got there I sat in the back outside the circle of mothers. Mary moved over and told me to come sit beside her. Later my son and I did Tot Music at CFA and whenever we ran into Mary she remembered us!” - Amy R.

line

“Coming to New Mother’s Group was a way to connect with other mothers in the same situation and a way to reassure myself that I was doing things right and that I was on the right track. And I have met nice people! My husband is happy that I have reassurance and a place to “touch base” about new motherhood!” - Emma P.

line

“I looked forward to meeting and talking with other new mothers so we could discuss the things that we were all going through. It also forced me to get out of the house for something other than doctor’s appointments! I feel that I was able to start setting goals and getting out of the house more easily than if I hadn’t taken the program. I’m more confident now in my own judgment with what my baby needs!” - Reunion Class.

line

“Thanks for offering the New Mom’s Group! It really gave me some much needed sanity in a time of craziness! I looked forward every week to hearing other new moms go through similar experiences and being able to talk through the rough patches. All of my family is in Texas, so this was a little piece of home for me once a week. Thank you again for your humor and light-hearted spirit! You truly have a special place in my heart!” - Lisa F.

line

“I wanted to meet other moms that could understand the things I am going through and get advise. I really felt at times that I was the only one going through certain things! I now have less anxiety and worry about my baby’s development and I’ve met some great women with babies the same age as mine!” - Reunion Class.

line

“Dear Mary, We wanted to Thank You so much for all of your support during the first few months of our baby boy’s life! It has been quite an adjustment as new parents but Jake is doing really well and now growing up big & strong! We really appreciated all of your phone calls and the endless breastfeeding advice. It meant the world to us to have another person, especially yourself, giving us so much support and there to help just a phone call away. We can’t wait to bring Jake to class and for you to finally meet him!” - Reunion Class.

Parent-Child Programs

Parent-ChildCFA has been providing Parent-Child Programs since 1981. In these many years we have developed what we know to be the perfect parent-child playgroups. Our instructors and comprehensive lesson plans combine a wide variety of age appropriate activities with music and story time. Personal attention and socialization, for you and your child, are also an integral part of our program.

line

“I love CFA! This place is addicting. Once you start here you just can’t get enough. You’re treated with so much respect and understanding. You walk in the door and you’re greeted with a smile. Staff members know our names. They remember the last discussion you had with them. The programs are so wonderful and so are the people.” - Janet Y.

line

“My daughter Annabella is now 5 and we have participated in two Mommy & Me classes, Tot Music, Summer Camp, and the best Santa visits ever! I hope Mary realizes how many ‘new’ mom’s sanity she has saved and how many friendships she has fostered.” - Maureen H.

line

“My son, Nate, and I have been enrolled in CFA classes since he was 3 months old. Now that he is 20 months, Nate recognizes the building from the street, talks about Ms. Marcia every day, and thoroughly enjoys himself in class. He has learned how to be a social kid at CFA and I know he is better for it. However, CFA has not only enriched my son’s life—it’s improved mine. Before I joined the first class, I literally did not know any other moms in the area. I had just moved to Long Island not long before. CFA is where I met my friends. Without these friends, I know my life would not be as fulfilled as it is now. I thank CFA for bringing our group of friends together. And now Nate and I keep coming back because our friends are at CFA.” - Vicki L.

line

“I knew the minute I walked into CFA that I found what I was looking for, I found a friendly place with warm people who really cared. My daughter and I have absolutely loved every parent-child program we’ve participated in. Each time I thought ‘it can’t be better than our last class’ and every time it was. The teachers are great, the lessons creative and fun. I may never leave! Thank you!” - Joan C.

line

“CFA is a staple in the Smithtown community and forever will hold cherish memories in those who walked through your doors. From crying babies to happy smiles, your kind guidance and passion will always hold a place in my heart and theirs.” - Linda R.

line

“I came to CFA being new to the area. My husband, our 3 kids and I moved to Smithtown from California. Talk about culture shock. I don’t know what we would have done without CFA. I was driving by one day and just decided to stop in and see what it was all about. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made! The staff and other families helped us get a lay of the land. My youngest and I have been participating in parent-child programs for almost a year now. We look forward to every class and come religiously every week. We have so much fun and we’ve made so many friends. CFA is our second home.” - Tasha B.

Preparing For Preschool - Separation Programs

Separation ProgramsOur Preparing for Preschool Separation Programs are specially designed to promote feelings of independence and confidence in children. These programs are more structured than our traditional parent-child programs. The curriculum includes singing, counting, organized play with rules and lots of socializing. The children now manage the craft on their own. Separation for parents is encouraged and supported but NEVER forced.

line

“Julianne definitely has grown and matured. She is more confident and can leave my side more easily. The open door policy of the program is a nice transition and sets the program apart from the rest.” - Angela C.

line

“I didn’t think it was possible. I didn’t think my son would ever separate from me. In a social situation he would hide behind me, attached to my thigh to the point I felt I would have to have him surgically removed. At home he was fine. He was chatty, playful and creative. He is actually quite an actor. Just when I have given up all hope my friend told me about CFA and the wonderful programs they offer. I called immediately and made an appointment to see if what I heard was true, that separation was possible and CFA programs could make it happen. The supportive and experienced staff explained the separation program philosophy and how they had cracked some pretty tough cases. I started to cry because I knew I found the answer and the place I was looking for. It’s been several years since that day. Not only did my son successfully separate but is now thriving in school and loves kindergarten! I am back at CFA with my second in a mommy and me class. CFA is truly a home away from home. I live 40 minutes away and I can’t imagine my family and me ‘growing up’ anywhere else.” - Anna P.

line

“CFA always felt like home for my daughter. From 2 year old pre-k until 3 year old pre-k, we love coming and seeing Santa for the holidays. CFA gives you a feeling of warmth and comfort. Thank you!” - Susan R.

line

“I took the separation class last summer for my twin girls. I was a little nervous that they would not be able to handle pre-school, since they were so close to me. I was so happy to see them listening to the teacher and sitting down when told. My girls really did not even come out to see me during the class as some to the other children did. This class was a very positive experience for them. Thank you Mary!” - Doreen.

line

“Joseph is my second child at CFA. The family atmosphere here is simply wonderful. My daughter, Samantha, and now son, Joseph, both had the opportunity to grow and flourish at CFA! They learned how to socialize and best of all, they learned that school is a wonderful place to be. CFA made their transition from the security of home into school a secure and happy one. Thank you CFA!” - Ann Marie F.

“My boy/girl twins both had a great experience at CFA! They learned so much and made such great friends along the way! (I did too!) Miss Diane made the children in her class feel confident, important and know that they could do anything they set out to do! My children looked forward to going to school in the morning and couldn’t wait to show me their work when they got home! CFA is a very warm and nurturing place and there is always a smiling face waiting to greet you! It was always a family for my children and me. We will cherish the memories we made there for a very long time. I didn’t want it to end! - Many Thanks.

line

I think the preschool curriculum was amazing and my twins know every number and letter they worked on by the time they graduated. Not only did they know their letters but they know how to sound out the first letters of a word. It was amazing to me to watch them grow and learn so much at CFA. They are adjusting to full day kindergarten well and they love it! I have recommended CFA to many people and will continue to do so. Thank you for everything! CFA is a special place” - Meg N.

line

“This was our only year at CFA for preschool. We did Miss Karen’s Preparing for Preschool class and we loved it! I have attended other preschools with my older children, but I think CFA is the best. It is the whole package - terrific teachers, warm caring environment, fun for the kids and above all they learn!” - Lizz R.

line

“I would definitely recommend CFA for it’s close-knit, family atmosphere. There is a personal touch you find at CFA that is lacking at many other preschools. The curriculum is the perfect mix of social and educational!” - Miss Marianne & Miss Maria’s class.

line

“Miss Marianne & Miss Maria made both me and my daughter feel very comfortable separating from one another. At first, my daughter was very nervous when I left her at preschool. However, the teachers handled the situation beautifully and my daughter adjusted very well and grew to love going to preschool. They made her experience a happy and fun one!” - Miss Marianne & Miss Maria’s class.

line

“The thing I like the best is that the teachers here were always cheerful and my son had a blast! I have already recommended several friends to CFA and they are starting in September. It’s a great place for kids to grow and learn!” - Miss Kendra & Miss Maria’s class.

line

“My daughter’s handwriting change from the beginning of the year until now is amazing! She can write all her letters – when she started she couldn’t write her name!” - Miss Karen & Miss Diana’s class.

line

“We began with CFA approx. 6 years ago. Our oldest daughter Shannon had Miss Charlotte and Miss Ginny for her 3 year old program, and then Miss Karen and Miss Cheryl for the 4 year old program. She enjoyed going to CFA and was well prepared for Kindergarten.” - Jill B.

line

“CFA has once again proven to be a wonderful, safe and friendly environment. This is my youngest of 3 children to attend preschool at CFA and I have never been disappointed. Thank you for starting their educational experiences so wonderfully!” - Miss Sue & Ms. Tricia’s class.

CFA’s Summer Camp Programs

Summer CampLet the fun begin! Our Summer Camp programs provide a wide variety of group activities, plenty of outside play and lots and lots of camp songs. We also offer Kindergarten Enrichment and a very special program entitled “Storytime”. Our camp counselors are personable, caring, well trained and full of enthusiasm! The campers leave camp each day happy, tired and excited to come back.

line

“Mary Kahrs and her counselors/staff have been incredibly wonderful! I am a first time mother of triplets and Mary always knew the right things to say, not just to me but to all the mothers who had so many questions and anxiety! She accommodated our children as necessary and all staff complied.

Putting my children in CFA camp was the BEST decision! It served as the perfect separation opportunity as they will now begin preschool at CFA! They can’t wait, I can’t wait. I feel secure that my children are safe and happy!” - Lisa F.

line

“I really liked how the 3 hour program was packed with fun-filled activities as well as educational. The country (world) theme is great. At the beginning of camp I expressed that I would like to know how my son’s day went and to keep track of my son’s always changing behavior. The counselors made sure to communicate with me daily in a very professional way. Everything seems so well organized and prepared, easy paperwork and great communication. I am looking forward to my child attending preschool.” - Kelly D.
